Recipe Substitution: How to Make Heavy Cream from Skim Milk and Butter
Heavy cream is not something I always have on hand. However, I always seem to have milk and butter around.
When making a recipe that calls for heavy cream, you can make a substitute by combining skim milk and melted butter.
This will not whip like regular heavy cream, but it wors fine to substitute heavy cream as a recipe ingredient.
I have used it as a substitute when baking and it worked great.
Ingredients:
3/4 skim milk
1/4 cup melted butter
Directions:
Melt the butter and mix it with the skim milk. This will give you the recipe equivalent of 1 cup of heavy cream.

I am so happy to find this. I often wanted to try a recipe but had no heavy whipping cream. This I always have on hand. Thanks!!
ReplyDeletePerfect recipe! Needed to make a dinner during a snowstorm when we forgot heavy cream!
ReplyDeleteI typically buy 2% milk. Have you tried it with 2%, and if so, does it seem to be better heavier?
